What is RSS?

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a simple format for keeping up with updated website content. Normally, one would have to visit a site themselves to check if there have been any updates. By subscribing to a site's RSS "feed", your browser or feed reader checks for you, and lets you know when new content is available. This makes it easier to follow more sources more efficiently. All you need is a capable browser or feed reader.

Feed readers are available as free or cheap applications. Popular ones include FeedDemon for Windows, and NetNewsWire for Mac OS X. If you are using the Firefox or Safari browsers, they have RSS features built in. There are also websites including Google, or Bloglines that allow you to follow feeds through their site.
