The deadline for submissions to the Public Health Matters Video Contest has passed.

What is public health? What does it do? How do you benefit?

Many of us have a hard time answering these questions. But public health plays a role in all our lives, whether we realize it or not. From the safety of what we eat and drink to the environments where we live, work, and play, public health is everywhere.

To help inform Oregonians about how our statewide public health system makes our lives better, we’re asking aspiring filmmakers to create short, compelling narratives that highlight the critical role of our county and state health services.

The Challenge:

Develop a 30-second TV public service ad (PSA) that creatively demonstrates the benefits Oregon’s public health system and its county health departments provide to our communities. More information.

Grand Prize:

The first-place winner of this contest will receive a $3,000 cash prize. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to meet with Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant. Depending on the judges’ recommendations, the winner may also be given the opportunity to see their PSA air in select markets throughout Oregon in fall 2010.  More prizes and information.
