Making trade-offs in public health: A brief opinion poll

Did you know that most of the increase in life expectancy over the past century has been due to such public health programs as safety laws, vaccinations, and hygiene promotion? Medical interventions have been dramatically effective for many people, but public health programs have had a more significant impact on lifespan increases and overall improvements in the health of the entire population.

In order to gain the best use of our public dollars, we have to set priorities and make trade-offs. These priorities are based on scientific evidence, but also on public opinion.

Please take our brief poll and give us your opinion.

Below are several important strategies that can be implemented to improve the public’s health.

Click on no more than six of them to show how you would prioritize these areas of public health spending. While all may be effective, you must determine what your priorities would be if you had to choose.
