Some schools to start serving local, seasonal foods
September 03rd, 2008The Northwest Health Foundation, through its Kaiser Permanente Community Fund, is helping to fund Oregon’s Farm to School program. This video clip features NWHF’s Chris DeMars, as well as her son, Royce. As mentioned in this story, this issue will move to Salem in 2009 for consideration of statewide funding by the legislature.
Medford Mail Tribune Cites NWHF Poll on Nutrition Labeling
August 18th, 2008The Medford Mail-tribune hs reported that Oregon public health officials may consider new requirements for displaying nutrition information in restaurants as part of their periodic review of the state’s food code in 2009. The article references the Northwest Health Foundation poll conducted by Davis Hibbitts Midghall on behalf of the Community Health Priorities project.
Poll details statewide support of menu labeling

PORTLAND - The Northwest Health Foundation’s Community Health Priorities initiative recently released a poll showing that an overwhelming 69 percent of Oregonians and 72 percent of Multnomah County residents would support a policy requiring fast food and restaurant chains to post the number of calories of food items on their menu boards.
Results also show that nearly 60 percent of Oregonians agree, or agree strongly, that it is the government’s role to ensure healthy nutritional foods are available.
