Help Us Crack the Case of Good Health

From Monday, August 10 through Saturday, August 15, Northwest Health Foundation will be participating in the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s multi-partner exhibit focusing on health.  “Crack the Case of Good Health” is the theme, and will feature activity-filled stations coordinated by the Oregon Public Health Division, NWHF’s Community Health Priorities, and more than twenty other partners.

The purpose of the CHP exhibit is to help kids and parents see how our community influences our health in a fun, interactive way.

We have designed a set of backdrops showing neighborhoods with contrasting environments - one with elements that are health-promoting (bike lanes, gardens growing healthy food, greenspaces, community gathering, etc.) and the other with less-healthy options.

Children and families can pose in one of the two backdrop panels and talk about the ways each is healthy or not so healthy and the backdrop design is the basis for coloring book-type handouts focusing on the relationship between health and the built environment.

If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by the Community Health Priorities display and say hello!

OMSI is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and is located at 1945 S.E. Water Ave., in Portland. The CHP display will be open on Monday morning and during the afternoon for the rest of the week. Download the flyer.

Wow! I stopped by OMSI’s “Cracking the Case of Good Health” exhibit and discovered a truly remarkable demonstration. From the gigantic sneezing nose to the critical thinking skills you all instilled in your visiting sleuths, I am impressed. So often preventative measures are forgotten, yet I found your exhibits to contain just enough fun and excitement to keep such a young crowd engaged and actively learning healthy ideas. This was a great method to translate useful information across generations, and a wonderful demonstration of community organizations in action!
